Getting out of the house and seeing new things can do wonders when it comes to waking up new nooks in my creative mind. Even just a different drive home or different town visited can do wonders.
You can imagine what happens when I take a 10 hour plane ride across the pond.
Cables
One thing that I was ridiculously happy to see when wandering the streets of Edinburgh was the abnormally high volume of cables on knitted clothing. I loooove knitting cables, but I hate asking to take pictures of strangers, so here is one snapshot of a window display I grabbed while on an open air tour bus around Edinburgh. I didn't ask, but the mannequin totally didn't mind.
I also saw some "stone cables" (aka, celtic knots)
Rosettes
Giant flowers adorned the shop racks and heads of so many young women wandering around Edinburgh. I didn't find the perfect one that I wanted to buy for myself, but here are a few that my favorite store, Accesorize, was selling.
Heritage
When we visited Stirling Castle we saw a tapestry re-creation project that I loved learning about. It involved fiber arts and magical creatures, and it took place in a castle. Need I say more to prove its awesome-ness?
And for those of you that have seen Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- yes that tapestry is in it. : )
Window Displays
This wedding dress stared out at the Royal Mile. It makes my heart go pitter-patter.
Ness had some yummy pink and purple plaids decorating its windows
Of course, there were probably countless other things that I tucked away in the back of my creative mind while wandering the streets and lochs of Scotland, but these are the most obvious ones. I'm sure some of the more subtle ones will surface in my work in due time.
